Welcome to PorterMTB!
We’re here to learn and share MTB stories and knowledge, and we’re going to have a lot of fun!
Why Substack?
I’m excited to get started here. I’ll be writing articles about a wide range of topics but usually related to mountain biking, what’s worked well for us and what hasn’t worked as it relates to riding and traveling with the family, and also diving into my thoughts on bikes, setups, gear, maintenance, and my favorite places to ride and travel. It will be a welcoming environment encouraging discussions brought up by the community so I can help all of you through things you’re dealing with as well with riding, families, trails, etc. This is my own media outlet where I can write whatever I want whenever I want, and we’re gonna have fun and learn here, and the best part is this isn’t based on an algorithm so if you’re subscribed here, you’ll get this in email form as well as have the ability to log in here at Substack for a lot more including community discussions. This is going to be a place where I will be posting our videos as well as sections that didn’t make it in the final video but are still entertaining. We’re joining our good friends at Berm Peak and Super Rider on this platform as well, I think it’s going to develop into something pretty cool.
What to expect?
I may not be posting on a strict schedule, but that’s why this is great, when I do post you get an email so you don’t miss it. I plan on posting 3-4 times a month with free articles, and on the paid side you’ll have full access to the archives, extra video content that didn’t make the videos, and quarterly live hangouts with Q&A on zoom or youtube live. Let me know what else you’d like to see!
Who am I?
For my quick background if you’re new here, I grew up in Louisville Kentucky and fell in love with mountain biking at 12 years old on a $100 Murray from Kmart or Walmart, I can’t remember exactly. From there I continued to go wherever riding took me, with my first job being at a bike shop, through Collegiate MTB racing, onto the NORBA Nationals trying to make it as a pro downhill racer. After college I moved to Durango Colorado to try to turn pro, which ended up working out in Slopestyle and Freeride MTB videos. After 8 years traveling on the Pro Slopestyle circuit I transitioned into creating videos through the traditional channels before Youtube was big, making videos on big adventures around the world and writing magazine articles about the trips. When the world shut down in 2020 I put all of my efforts into my own Youtube channel creating videos in the backyard on our jumps with the kids, and once we could start traveling again we took full advantage of that as well, sharing our family riding trips with all of you.
If you have a friend you think might enjoy these emails and posts, share this with them as well here!
So welcome aboard here, let me know what you’d like to see, read about, and discuss, and we’ll grow this together!
Thanks,
Eric Porter
